Loving the choice of prints this season

I really love a great print, but then I did study print design when I was at university back in 2001, so I have always had a passion for it. I love the many ways print can be used, brick repeat, random repeat, check and free hand painted designs. A print can add texture and depth to the fabric and I feel there is something for all personalities from sharp graphic prints to artistic florals.

Prints are so versatile and there are many different ways of wearing them.  If you’re thinking of introducing a small amount of print to your wardrobe then pick colours which will work with existing items. For example, I love a black and white print, and adding a printed jacket or scarf to your favourite black dress can be a simple way to start.

This season we have had such a great choice of printed designs, the biggest trend this season being stripes, as seen on many of the catwalks this spring. We had stripes from Mama b, Rundholz and Moyuru.

I love the Rundholz prints this Season, the Black Label collection has alphabetical prints and the words are from the Oscar wild story, ‘The Canterville Ghost’. The collection has stripes, layered repeats, block repeats and random prints of large ‘a’.

Layering is a great way to add print and you can be subtle or bold, I have layered a black sleeveless top over a long sleeve printed top, it looks great but also lets you take the sleeveless top though to autumn.

Subtle layered outfit

You can also add print subtly by choosing one like these grey trousers which are two shades of grey. I have teamed them up with a grey cardigan which has a subtle embossed lettering in the knit, and the white top breaks up the grey and make it look fresh.

Here, I have layered a printed top and jacket both in the same style print but with reversed colours which I think looks bold and edgy, it makes much more impact.

Here I am in my favourite purchase of the season, I am actually wearing them today. They are a very bold black and white print but look great teamed up with a randomly placed print t.shirt in the same lettering style.

Today I am wearing my favourite printed trousers with a plain black tee

In this photo, I am wearing the same style of printed trouser but in the blue which is much more subtle than the contrasting black and white print. To give the outfit even more ‘wow factor’ I have added a bold printed white and blue tee. This outfit shows how well two different prints can work well together.

As well as stripes being a big trend this season, they are also very classic. I am always wearing my black pinstripe trousers from about 4 years ago.  I love these striped harems which I wore on my holiday this month. Teamed with a black t.shirt they look very classic and I know these will be in my summer wardrobe 4 years from now.

In this outfit I have shown how well you can mix a stripe with a different print. The top has a subtle lettering print with a layered white ‘a’, using the same shade of colour really helps when mixing prints.

Buying trip for winter 2016

It’s crazy to start thinking about winter when we haven’t even had summer yet, but the next few months will go so quickly and in July the new deliveries will start arriving.

We travelled to Germany in January this year, and we had a really successful buying trip.

We’re pleased to announce we have Xenia back in store for next season, the collection for autumn is fantastic, great wearable pieces for evening which really create a statement. I found this picture on Xenia Designs Facebook page, of us looking at the collection.

Xenia Designs show at the Gallery in Dusseldorf

The Gallery show was in an amazing new location called Areal Böhler, this venue was a large warehouse building, much easier to get a round as it was all on one floor and we loved the industrial feel. Although we did have to walk miles to and from the car in the freezing cold…not as glamorous as Fashion Buying may seem!

The main highlight, as always, was the Rundholz collection, we spent the whole of Saturday at the show room. The Collection for Winter 2016 has been inspired by Elizabethan portraits.

The Dip collection has fantastic rich devore fabrics, touchable textures and the colours are black, brown, navy and gold. The gold is highlighted in accessories, fabrics and gold paint splashes. And we have chosen from Lisa Tucci some wonderful footwear to complement the ‘gold theme’ and also some ‘wow factor’ jewellery pieces from Jamais sans toi, which also feature gold quite strongly.

The Black label collection has rich colours of blue, wine red, grey and black. The prints are abstract florals and hand painted flower heads, the fabrics are rich. There are heavy cottons, velvets and soft knits. This season there is a larger variety of oversized pieces and lots of wonderful shaped dresses with zip details and all types of trousers from straight, balloon shaped and harems.

An exciting start to Spring 2016

We have had an exciting start to Spring here at Walkers, We have had some amazing colourful deliveries from Rundholz, as well as a new label for Walkers from Spain, Lurdes Bergada. Keely and I are loving both and have many new styles added to our wardrobes.

We have lots of graphic prints from Rundholz, the inspiration for this was from the short story ‘The Canterville Ghost’ by Oscar Wild. In the outfits below we have shown you how well the different prints work together.

We have been down to the Suffolk coast for our Spring 2016 photo shoot, it was very cold morning but really sunny with blue skies so we got some great photographs.

We have a little video we have put together of some of the pictures we did a red, black and white shoot as well as a blue and grey shoot.

Keely was busy last week putting together outfits for Norwich fashion week. The retailers show was on Thursday evening and was a great success, it included lots of independent retailers as well as high street shops and department stores.

I have put together a little montage of the outfits on the models back stage, we used mainly Rundholz and kept it to Red, Black and white. The mixture of Prints worked really well and looked fantastic on the catwalk.

Dusseldorf buying trip for S/S 2016

We have been so busy in the shop this summer that I am only just getting the chance to write about our buying trip to Germany which was at the end of July.
Keely and I were joined by Sara this trip who was really excited as it was her first trip to Dusseldorf buying. We arrived Friday afternoon and headed straight to the gallery to see Moyuru’s collection.
We were happy as spring 2015 had been an amazing season for us and there were some lovely pieces planned for 2016. The colour pallet is grey, black and white but with a hint of lime and pale blue. The fabrics are lots of light cotton jerseys and linen mixes with the usual hand painted prints as well as woven stripes and spots.

As the Gallery is on the bank of the famous Rhine we strolled along the river in the sun for an early evening drink. We found a great little (beach) bar where we had couple of cocktails before returning back to the hotel for our evening meal and an early night.

First thing the next morning we set off across the city to the Rundholz showroom. There was a very interesting wood structure displayed in the window, but this didn’t give us any ideas about what could be in store, as we ran down the stairs to view the Black label collection it was a splendid sea of colour.

Lots of pink which include, light lychee, mid melon and deep raspberry. Also on the fruit theme there was blueberry and Strawberry plus black, white and grey. The prints are very graphic and include numbers, words and geometric shapes. There really was a huge collection which made it even harder to choose which pieces to buy but here are a few of my favourite styles….

We spent an exhausting day in the Rundholz showroom and by 7pm we decided to call it a day and come back in the morning to place our order for the dip and main collection. The Rundholz ladies had been so patient with us and offered us a glass of bubbly to relax after the long day. There is a fabulous restaurant down the road called Beluga where we have been a few times now and we had a delicious meal.

Bright and early on the Sunday we packed up and checked out of the hotel and returned to Rundholz to place the Main collection and Dip order. The Main collection colours are navy, grey, white and black, and this collection also had geometric block prints, beautiful sheer jackets and trousers with a zip down one leg, all amazing. The Dip collection is subtle in colour white, black and shades of grey, mixed with a hint of metallic paint print. The collection uses pockets as the main focus as well as raw edged waffle cottons.

Rundholz print outfit inspiration…..

This is one of my favourite outfits I have modelled at work this season. I Love the printed mesh fabric on the jacket from Rundholz and it works really well with the little black dress from Mamab which is a lovely weight jersey. To add my colour on this outfit I have picked the soft leather bag Marilla cupboard from Pieter Zoon which is a big bag brilliant to pop all your essentials……

Harems

Love them or hate them, harems have now been around a few seasons with our designers at Walkers. Rundholz, my favourite designer, has been incorporating them into his collections for years whilst other designers are only now adding versions in their collections. Personally I love a very low crotch harem, but there is something for everyone, from the more fitted harem to big and baggy, In this blog I want to show you the different varieties we have at Walkers.

Starting with the Basic harem which is a ‘learner harem’ a great shape for a beginner and ultra comfy, this style can dressed up or down. This particular version is really stretchy with no fastening which gives a flat uninterrupted shape.

Stretchy 'learner harem'

Stretchy ‘learner harem’

The next style is the Slight harem style, which works well if you’re new to harems, as there is not too much extra fabric at the front to get used to but loose enough to be really comfy. If you pick a cotton jersey they feel as comfy as PJ’s – a real treat if your used to wearing slim tight fitting trousers.

The Longer leg harem is great if you want a full length harem which tucks into boots, this style is perfect for ladies who find it hard to get a trouser in their leg length but also looks great if you pull the trouser up and have skirt detail at the top.

The Knee length harem or Dropped crotch works really well with layering and is a favourite of mine, there are many versions we have here at Walkers including the Skirt looking harems, Wide leg harem, Cropped harem and full on Dropped crotch.

Lisa Tucci for A/W 2015

A few weeks a go we did the buying for Lisa Tucci A/W 2015, there are some brilliant new styles we have picked and they compliment the Rundholz collections perfectly we have shades of red, grey, brown and black.

IMG_1162 IMG_1174We also have all our favourite styles from Lisa Tucci, we have the YSL and Paterno boots, both were best sellers last season as they have a small comfortable stylish heel. We have the Paterno boot and Brescia shoe in a fabulous graffiti print leather which is just amazing so colourful and will brighten up any outfit.
